DistroWatch

Raphaël, Could you submit Ichthux to DistroWatch, please?

I've been thinking about

I've been thinking about this. Thank you for remind me, I just sent an email to Ladislav. <>< Raphaël

No news

I got no news from Ladislav... The only thing I could find was that he chose to include Ubuntu Christian Edition and not Ichthux, because Ubuntu CE bought a few thousand banners on distrowatch.com. Sad how even the Distrowatch guys can pay more attention to money than to code...

Ichthux will excel on its merits

Rafael- I'm not sure what it is, but something just draws me more to the Ichthux community than Ubuntu CE. I somewhat prefer the Gnome desktop but Ichthux just feels more right! And I believe that this community will go further and possibly last longer. As it is I am aware that some of the members here and on the development team have been at this for at least a couple of years before the first release - am I correct? So things like a delay in being added to Distrowatch will not detour the excellence that will come from this project. God bless you brother and your workmanship and that of all the developers here is in my prayers. In His Grip, John - Poiema Christian Linux Frappr - http://www.frappr.com/christianlinuxusers

Thank you for the

Thank you for the encouragement, John You are perfectly right. We have been working on this for quite a time now. Actually, Ichthux was mentionned on Distrowatch in May 2005 when it was still based on Knoppix. We are surely happy to have you around, and I would be very glad to welcome you on the IRC channel, too :) As for GNOME vs. KDE, we have begun with KDE and we are getting to work with XFCE now for Ichthux-lite, but we don't exclude to have an additional GNOME-based desktop in the future. God bless Raphaël

If Ichthux does go into

If Ichthux does go into GNOME, may I suggest trying for an amalgamation with Ubuntu CE, sure they use methods you disagree with (with good reason) but they have done a lot with manipulating gnome and are trying to gain penitration through Ubuntu, such that they probably already have users following their distribution. ~ Kopilo =^.^=

There would have to be a lot of changes

We have tried to work with Ubuntu CE. We have tried to help them integrate with Ubuntu, aswell, since have Ubuntu developers in our midst. If you read the posts on the Ubuntu CE forums, you'll see that Jereme (the Ubuntu CE developer) eventually stated that he doesn't want to work with the Ubuntu developer (because he doesn't want to be told how to develop his project), doesn't want to put his work inside Ubuntu (because he wants "full control" on his project) and doesn't care to get to the Ubuntu standards (because he doesn't want to be limited by licensing issues and technical standards). This has been said clearly enough, several times. As it is, there is no way Ubuntu CE will get into Ubuntu unless they change radically, both on technical and licensing points. Although I recognized Ubuntu CE is more tuned on the outside than Ichthux, I do not consider they have done any real developping work. When you build a house, you begin with the basement, and yes, during one or 2 years, you're not able to live in the house. If you made a wooden house and paint it nicely, it will look nice, but it will fall whenever the wind will blow. Jereme doesn't describe Ubuntu CE as a distribution by the way, and he said (you can find the quotes on the Ubuntu CE forums) that he does not intend Ubuntu CE to be a real distro. Yes, Ubuntu CE has a lot of users, so far. But as soon as Ubuntu Edgy will be out, I expect they're going to have technical issues. I might be wrong, but I think it has already begun. I will not lose my time trying to work with Ubuntu CE anymore. They go their way, we go ours. Time will tell. Ichthux might provide a GNOME environment in the future, and there's very little chance that it has anything to do with Ubuntu CE. I hope that clears the situation. God bless Raphaël
