Bibletime

So I have been trying to find an NIV translation for bibletime/sword but cannot find it anywhere. Why don't they include the most popular translation of the bible (in the States) in their program?

All I've got to say about

All I've got to say about this, I already said on my blog, and will keep saying it: http://www.raphink.info/©-3760-2006-yhwh. Let's not make popular what is unbiblical (at least to me, such copyrights are in total contradiction with the Gospel). God bless Raphaël

The KJV is copyrighted as per the information below: In the United Kingdom the Authorized King James Version (KJV) remains in Crown Copyright under laws which predate any modern copyright legislation. The rights in this Version of the Bible are a Crown prerogative which continues unaffected by changes in secular legislation. The rights of the Sovereign in the (KJV)version of the Bible(and in the 1662 Book of Common Prayer) in the United Kingdom are controlled on behalf of the Crown in England, Wales and Northern Ireland by the holder of royal letters patent, The Queen's Printer. The present holder is Cambridge University Press, the world's oldest printer and publisher of Bibles. In Scotland the rights of the Sovereign are administered by the Scottish Bible Board, which may license an approved publisher: currently HarperCollins. Should you require permission to quote from the KJV for publication in the UK, you should write giving details to Cambridge University Press, contact details are as follows: Christopher Wright Bible Publishing Manager Cambridge University Press Cambridge CB2 2RU, UK tel: +44 (0) 1223 325004 (direct) fax: +44 (0) 1223 325810 (direct) Email: cwright@cambridge .org If you require any further information please contact Cambridge University Press as above. NIV, NASB, and several more

NIV, NASB, and several more modern translations can not be included because of copyright issues. The companies/organizations that "own" those translations do not allow us to distribute them. It certainly not because we don't want, we just simply can not legally do so. -Jordan

NIV

If you check the website for Bibletime, you'll see a more detailed explanation but here's the bottom line: To include the NIV text requires payment of copyright royalty so it is not possible in a GPL release product. In HIM, kmack "I hate to get beat by a machine!"

NIV

If NIV isnt available, then of course I wont use it. I just have an issue with "copyrighting" the Word of God.

ESV

An arguably better translation (than the NIV) is available in the ESV - also including the cross-references. Very nice.
