root account

Hi All, I have a quick question. I tried to log on as "su" in a terminal. But it tells me that I have an incorrect logon. Now I did notice that when I installed Ichthux it did not ask me for a root account password. Is there a standard password that I am supposed to use? Thanks, Bob

Sudo

Hi Bob, In Ubuntu and Ubuntu derivative, you cannot log with the root account by default. Sudo is used instead. Please read on this page how to use it. Don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions :) God bless Raphaël

Re: Sudo

Okay, I read your answer and I read the very arrogant response in the Kubuntu FAQ where these people tell us we don't need a root account. They have NO RIGHT to decide that for MY machine! This machine is MINE, not the property of some socialist community under the control of Fearless Leader as seems to be presumed by that flippant answer giving in Kubuntu's FAQ!

If I can not have a GUI root account on my own machine, then Kubuntu is getting thrown in the trash can so hard it won't stop until it bashes Hitler in the head in Hades! Besides that, even with Ichthux I doubt we can get rid of that buddhist ying-yang symbol  in the upper right-hand corner.

The nerve of them to decide for ME that I don't need a root account on MY own system! As if I am some ward of the state Nanny. PHOOEY! And that EULA aggreement almost sounded like I was being inducted into the cult of  Scientology. My late mentor Dr. Walter Martin would have told me to run, don't walk, to the format command!
